Kanye West and Kim Kardashian: Rapper and ex-wife quarrel over daughter's name

Kanye West, now known simply as "Ye," has once again found himself at the center of controversy after releasing a new track titled "Lonely Roads Still Go to Sunshine" on his X (formerly Twitter) account on March 15, 2025. The song features not only Sean "Diddy" Combs and his son Christian "King" Combs but also Ye and Kim Kardashian’s 11-year-old daughter, North West. The track stirred immediate backlash, particularly from Kim, who has made it clear she does not want their daughter involved — especially given Diddy’s ongoing legal troubles.

Combs, currently incarcerated in New York and facing federal charges of sex trafficking and racketeering, remains a highly controversial figure. He has denied all allegations. Despite the legal cloud surrounding Combs, Ye expressed admiration and gratitude for his longtime friend in the song. Kim, however, strongly opposed North’s participation, fearing her daughter could get caught up in the resulting legal and public fallout.

The dispute between Kim and Kanye intensified after a leaked screenshot of their private conversation surfaced online. In the exchange, Kim reminded Kanye of a prior agreement where he approved trademarking their children’s names — including North’s — ensuring control over their use until the children turn 18, at which point ownership would transfer to them. Kim claimed she sent Kanye legal paperwork to prevent North from being included in the track, hoping to shield her from any associations with Combs' case. She argued, "One person has to trademark! I sent paperwork over so she wouldn’t be in the Diddy song to protect her."

Kanye, however, refused to back down. In a heated reply, he wrote, "Amend it or I’m going to war. And neither of us will recover from the public fallout. You’re going to have to kill me." He also reportedly told Kim he was done speaking to her altogether, escalating the already strained co-parenting dynamic.

Sources close to Kim revealed that she quickly sought legal recourse, filing a cease and desist against Kanye to stop the song’s distribution. She also attempted to organize an emergency mediation with a judge and legal representatives to resolve the matter privately — but Kanye allegedly refused to attend.

The couple, once regarded as one of the most influential power duos in pop culture, shares four children: North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm. Their relationship, which began in 2012 and lasted nearly a decade before ending in a high-profile divorce in 2021, has grown increasingly tense as they navigate co-parenting in the public eye.

This latest incident not only underscores the personal and legal complexities between Kim and Kanye but also highlights the vulnerability of their children, who remain caught between two vastly different approaches to parenting and public life.
