The makers of Thudarum unveiled the trailer of the highly anticipated Malayalam film on Wednesday across social media platforms. Starring the legendary Mohanlal alongside the iconic Shobana, the trailer promises an engaging crime thriller infused with comedy and drama — a combination that has long been a hallmark of Lalettan’s films.
The trailer opens with a seemingly ordinary man whose life takes an unexpected, chaotic turn after his car is confiscated by the police. His attempts to retrieve his vehicle lead him back to the station repeatedly, but each visit pulls him deeper into a web of mystery. What starts as a quest to reclaim his car spirals into an unforeseen entanglement in a crime scene that no one, including him, saw coming.
Directed by Tharun Moorthy, known for his nuanced storytelling, the film’s screenplay is co-written by Moorthy himself alongside KR Sunil. The plot draws inspiration from Sunil’s real-life encounter with a mysterious man during one of his journeys — an experience that left a lasting impression, now shaping the heart of Thudarum.
Mohanlal steps into the shoes of Shanmugham, a character that seems to promise his signature mix of charisma and emotional depth. Shobana, who reunites with Mohanlal after a long gap, portrays Lalitha, adding her graceful presence to the narrative.
The film boasts an impressive supporting cast, including Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, Krishna Praba, Prakash Varma, and Aravind — each bringing their own flair to the story. Produced by M Renjith under the banner of Rejaputhra Visual Media, Thudarum is shaping up to be a layered, intriguing watch that blends suspense with human drama.
While the release date is yet to be announced, anticipation is running high. Meanwhile, Mohanlal remains busy promoting L2: Empuraan, the eagerly awaited sequel to Lucifer. Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran — who also plays a pivotal role — the film is set to hit theaters on March 27, adding to the excitement for Lalettan fans.
With Thudarum promising an intense yet entertaining ride and L2: Empuraan gearing up for a grand release, it looks like 2024 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Mohanlal’s illustrious career.
