The tragic death of 22-year-old Congress worker Himani Narwal, whose body was found stuffed in a suitcase near a bus stand in Rohtak, has sparked serious allegations and demands for a high-level investigation. Her mother, Savita Narwal, has made a shocking claim, suggesting that members of the Congress party might be involved in her daughter’s murder due to fears about her rising political career.
Speaking exclusively to India Today, Savita alleged that Himani, who actively participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra and had been associated with the Congress for over a decade, had made many sacrifices for the party. She expressed concern that some individuals within the party may have felt threatened by her daughter's growing influence.
According to Savita, she last spoke to Himani on February 27, a day before the young leader was supposed to attend a rally led by senior Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda. When she tried contacting her daughter the next day, Himani's phone was switched off. The family later received the devastating news of her body being found in a suitcase.
Savita described her daughter as someone who wanted to pursue clean politics and refused to compromise on principles, even if it meant standing against powerful figures. She revealed that Himani had frequently spoken about issues within the party and had even argued with senior Congress leaders.
One of the instances she recalled was during the Bharat Jodo Yatra when Himani had disagreements over room-sharing arrangements. She had specific food preferences, avoiding onion and garlic, and preferred staying alone, which led to conflicts with party members.
What has added to the family’s anguish is the complete silence from Congress leaders. Savita stated that no senior party official had reached out to them following Himani's death. "I met Asha Hooda, and Hooda Saheb knows us, but no Congress leader has spoken to us yet," she said, demanding the strictest punishment, including the death penalty, for her daughter’s killers.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified their investigation, forming four teams to probe the case. A police official confirmed that they have gathered some leads and are working towards uncovering the truth behind the brutal crime.
