Vicky Kaushal’s historical drama Chhaava, which portrays the life and legacy of Maratha Emperor Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, has become a massive success at the box office. In its fourth week, the film has amassed a nett collection of ₹525.7 crore in India, and it continues to show impressive numbers both domestically and internationally. Since its release, Chhaava has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Gadar 2, which was a major 2023 hit starring Sunny Deol.
The film also benefited from its Telugu release on March 7, which helped it to expand its audience base. However, Chhaava did experience a slight dip in earnings on Sunday, March 9, as many viewers were glued to the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand. Despite this, the film still managed to bring in ₹11.5 crore on Sunday, with ₹9 crore from the Hindi version and ₹2.5 crore from the Telugu version.
One of the remarkable aspects of Chhaava's box office performance is its resilience against competition. The film’s fourth weekend collection stood at ₹28.43 crore, marking the second-highest fourth-weekend collection of all time after Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2, which earned ₹30 crore. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh pointed out that despite the distraction of the cricket final, Chhaava continued to perform exceptionally well.
Here’s the detailed day-wise breakdown of the box office collections for Chhaava after 24 days, as reported by Sacnilk:
- Week 1: ₹219.25 crore
- Week 2: ₹180.25 crore
- Week 3: ₹84.05 crore
- Week 4 (Friday): ₹8.75 crore
- Week 4 (Saturday): ₹16.75 crore
- Week 4 (Sunday): ₹11.5 crore
- Total Nett Collection: ₹520.55 crore
The film has earned ₹512.3 crore from the Hindi version and ₹8.25 crore from the Telugu version, bringing its total domestic earnings to ₹520.55 crore. Globally, the film has grossed ₹691 crore, surpassing the lifetime earnings of Gadar 2, which grossed ₹686 crore.
Chhaava had an excellent opening on February 14, with ₹31 crore on its first day. This strong start set the tone for its record-breaking run. With this success, Chhaava has become the highest-grossing film in Vicky Kaushal’s career, surpassing his previous hits. The film has proven to be a significant milestone for the actor since his Bollywood debut in 2012.
Looking ahead, Chhaava is expected to continue its strong run, with the upcoming Holi weekend potentially providing a further boost to its box office earnings. The only notable competition it faces in the coming weeks is John Abraham’s The Diplomat. However, with its current momentum, Chhaava is poised to remain a dominant force at the box office, continuing to break records and reinforce Vicky Kaushal’s status as one of the leading stars in the industry.
