While fans wait for Part 2, Salaar's re-release: Why Prabhas's film deserves to be a classic

Baahubali catapulted Prabhas into global superstardom, marking a pivotal shift from his boy-next-door charm to an indomitable force on screen. Following the phenomenon, Prashanth Neel’s Salaar: Part 1 - Ceasefire once again showcased why Prabhas remains a larger-than-life figure in Indian cinema. While Salaar garnered praise during its 2023 release, it’s a film that arguably deserved more recognition for its ambition and execution — especially considering the world-building Neel meticulously crafted.

Set in the fictional realm of Khansar, the narrative unfolds like a ‘desi’ Game of Thrones, blending raw power politics with profound personal bonds. Prithviraj Sukumaran’s portrayal of Varada, paired with Prabhas’s Deva, gives the story emotional weight. Their friendship — anchored in unwavering promises — elevates the film from a mere action drama to an epic saga about loyalty, sacrifice, and legacy. Neel’s visual storytelling thrives on this dynamic, particularly in the interval block and the explosive climax, where Deva’s true identity is revealed.

Though Shruti Haasan’s performance felt misaligned with the film’s tone, Neel counterbalances this with powerful sequences that underline Deva’s moral compass — from standing by his people to protecting the vulnerable. Each moment feels intentional, building toward a finale that leaves the audience both satisfied and craving more.

The wait for Salaar: Part 2 - Shouryanga Parvam remains agonizingly open-ended. With Prabhas diving into The Raja Saab and Kalki 2, and Neel occupied with Dragon alongside Jr NTR, the sequel's timeline remains unclear. However, if Part 1 is any indication, the wait may very well be worth it — promising an even grander, emotionally charged continuation of Deva’s journey.
