According to a Pahalgam survivor, the terrorist shot our husband when we were having bhelpuri

The terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has left the nation shocked and heartbroken, especially with the heartrending testimonies from survivors. Among them, one woman's words have captured the emotional devastation wrought by the violence:

“We were just having bhelpuri... and then he shot my husband,” she said in a trembling voice, describing how the seemingly peaceful outing turned into a nightmare.

According to her, the attackers appeared to target non-Muslims, with one of the gunmen reportedly declaring that her husband was "not a Muslim" before opening fire. Her trauma is echoed by other disturbing visuals from the scene, where:

  • A woman was seen sobbing uncontrollably, crying out, “Please save my husband,” as chaos unfolded around her.

  • In another clip, a woman tried desperately to stop the bleeding of a wounded man, pleading for urgent medical help: “Sir, please, please, please ask for help.”

The attack occurred on Tuesday in the picturesque Baisaran meadow near Pahalgam, an area known for its natural beauty and popular with tourists. Access to the site is limited to foot trails or ponies, complicating rescue efforts.

A total of twelve people were injured, and one tourist — Manjunath from Karnataka, was killed. His wife Pallavi, who witnessed his murder, has become one of the central voices demanding justice and accountability. She shared that local civilians risked their own lives to rescue her.

The terror outfit The Resistance Front (TRF), believed to be an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The group’s goal appears to be spreading fear among non-locals and derailing peace in the region.

Political leaders across the spectrum have condemned the attack:

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, currently on a visit to Jeddah, called the attack “heinous” and vowed that the perpetrators “will not be spared.”

  • Home Minister Amit Shah held an emergency security review and is heading to Srinagar for on-ground coordination.

  • PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti also issued a strong condemnation, calling the act “cowardly” and emphasizing that such violence must be unequivocally rejected.

As India mourns this tragedy, the human cost of terrorism comes sharply into focus — especially through the pain etched in the voices of those who lost loved ones in what should have been a peaceful family holiday.
