Babar Azam responds to those who criticize Pakistani cricket: Yes, pitunga nahi dhindora aake

Babar Azam made headlines after a tense exchange with a journalist during a press conference ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025. The journalist confronted Babar over the string of poor performances by the national team, including:

  • Failing to win the tri-series at home

  • Crashing out in the group stage of the Champions Trophy after defeats to India and New Zealand

  • Suffering a 1-4 T20I series defeat followed by a 0-3 whitewash in another series, both against New Zealand

The pointed question was whether Babar would only raise his voice after Pakistan cricket is “finished.”

Journo’s Question:
“Kis din aap kuch bolenge? Jis din poori team khatam ho jaayegi, tab aap bolenge?”
(When will you say something? Will you wait until the team is finished to speak up?)

Babar clearly irked, shut down the insinuation that he remained silent while the team struggled:

Babar’s Response:
“Jaha mujhe bolna hota hai, main bol deta hoon... Main media mein aa ke dhindora nahi pitunga. Social media pe kya hona chahiye, woh meri job nahi hai.”
(I speak where I need to. I won’t come and make noise in the media. What happens on social media is not my job.)

He clarified that he chooses to communicate privately within the team environment, rather than address sensitive issues publicly, implying leadership doesn’t require performative statements in the media.

What’s Next for Babar?

Despite the heat off the field, Babar will aim to refocus on cricket as he leads Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2025. Their campaign starts on Monday, April 14, against Islamabad United at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

This episode reflects growing frustration in the media and fan circles about Pakistan’s recent slump, while Babar remains steadfast in his leadership style — firm but private. How he responds with the bat and as captain in the PSL could shape the narrative around him ahead of future national duties.
