Discover a business that, in FY25, sold more automobiles than Hyundai, Tata, and Mahindra combined

Maruti Suzuki India has once again demonstrated its unshakable dominance in the country’s passenger vehicle (PV) market with a record-breaking performance in FY25. The automaker not only registered its highest-ever volumes in both domestic sales and exports but also outperformed its key rivals—Hyundai, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra—by a significant margin. The scale of Maruti Suzuki’s success can be understood from the fact that it sold more PVs than these three competitors combined, reinforcing its position as the undisputed leader of the Indian automotive industry.

During FY25, Maruti Suzuki’s domestic PV sales stood at a staggering 17,60,767 units, surpassing the collective sales of Hyundai (5,98,666 units), Tata Motors (5,53,585 units), and Mahindra & Mahindra (5,51,487 units). The combined domestic sales of these three original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) totaled 17,03,738 units, which was 57,029 units less than Maruti Suzuki’s individual sales. While the company had also led the market in FY24, the gap between its sales and the cumulative sales of these three automakers was even wider last year, standing at 1,14,341 units. This consistency in outperforming its competitors highlights Maruti Suzuki’s ability to cater to a wide range of customers across different segments.

The company distributes its vehicles through two major retail channels—Nexa and Arena—which cater to different customer preferences. The Nexa showrooms offer premium models such as the Ignis, Baleno, Ciaz, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, XL6, and Invicto. On the other hand, Arena dealerships cater to mass-market buyers, offering vehicles like the Alto K10, S-Presso, Celerio, Eeco, WagonR, Swift, Dzire, Brezza, and Ertiga. This dual-channel strategy has allowed Maruti Suzuki to dominate multiple price segments while ensuring a strong presence across both urban and rural markets.

One of the biggest highlights of FY25 was Maruti Suzuki’s overwhelming presence in the list of India’s ten best-selling cars, with seven out of the top ten models coming from its portfolio. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR continued to reign as the country’s best-selling car for the fourth consecutive year, with a total of 1,98,451 units sold. The only two non-Maruti models that made it to the list were the Tata Punch and the Hyundai Creta, which secured the second and third positions, respectively.

In addition to strong sales numbers, Maruti Suzuki also introduced new-generation versions of the Swift and Dzire, both of which were well-received by customers. These refreshed models brought in modern design elements, enhanced features, and improved fuel efficiency, further solidifying their positions as segment leaders.

A significant milestone for Maruti Suzuki in FY25 was its entry into the electric vehicle (EV) segment. The company unveiled its first-ever battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e Vitara, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. This marks a crucial step toward electrification for the brand, which has traditionally focused on internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and hybrid technologies. The e Vitara is expected to compete in the rapidly growing EV market, reflecting Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to sustainable and future-ready mobility solutions.

With strong sales, a dominant market share, multiple successful product launches, and a significant move into electric mobility, FY25 has been an exceptionally successful year for Maruti Suzuki. The company’s ability to consistently outperform its competitors and adapt to evolving market trends ensures that it remains the leader in India’s automobile industry.
