In the IPL, Jofra Archer reigns supreme: RR pacer shares his secret to success

Jofra Archer marked a stunning return to form in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2025 campaign with a Player of the Match performance against Punjab Kings on April 5 in Mullanpur. After a horror start to the season, where he leaked a record 76 runs against SunRisers Hyderabad — the most expensive spell in IPL history — Archer silenced critics with a fiery 3-wicket burst that helped RR seal a 50-run win.

Archer’s spell was particularly memorable for his express pace — touching 151 kph — and precision. He struck early, removing opener Priyansh Arya with a beautiful delivery before dismissing Shreyas Iyer in the same over. Later, he added Arshdeep Singh to his tally, finishing with 3 for 25. His early breakthroughs derailed Punjab’s chase of 206, and despite resistance from Nehal Wadhera and Glenn Maxwell, PBKS could only manage 155/9.

After the game, Archer spoke candidly about the highs and lows of cricket. “Most importantly, I’m happy to contribute to the team. You have to enjoy the good days because the bad ones could be just around the corner,” he said, highlighting the importance of staying grounded in the fast-paced world of T20s.

This was a vital comeback moment for Archer, who had endured a rough Champions Trophy campaign and was returning to the IPL after a year-long injury layoff. Encouraging signs were already visible in RR’s match against CSK in Guwahati, where he bowled a sharp spell and dismissed Rachin Ravindra.

Rajasthan’s dominant performance against Punjab was set up earlier in the day by Yashasvi Jaiswal’s 67 off 45 and brisk knocks from Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag, pushing RR to 205 — the first 200+ total in Mullanpur this season.

Captain Sanju Samson lauded Archer’s impact, saying, “We all love it when he bowls those quick overs.”

With two wins from four matches, the Royals are now looking to build momentum as they face Gujarat Titans next at the Narendra Modi Stadium on April 9.
