It Ends With Us actor responds to Blake Lively's lawsuit: I was surprised

Actor Adam Mondschein has responded strongly to Blake Lively’s claims in her recent lawsuit over the filming of It Ends With Us, specifically pushing back against her description of an uncomfortable experience during a hospital birth scene they shot together.

Mondschein, who portrayed Doctor Dunbar in the 2024 film, issued a statement to Page Six expressing surprise over Lively’s allegations. “I’m not going to speculate as to Ms. Lively’s motivations for mentioning me in the complaint,” he said. “Needless to say, my experience working with her is very different than the one she described in her lawsuit.”

Lively, in her complaint, claimed she was “nearly nude” and felt exposed while filming the emotionally intense childbirth scene, which she described as “chaotic, crowded, and utterly lacking in standard industry protections for filming nude scenes.” But Mondschein disputes that characterization. He clarified that Lively wore a full hospital gown, black shorts, a torso-covering prosthetic to simulate pregnancy, and any additional undergarments of her choice.

Mondschein also took offense at implications regarding his professionalism, stating, “Ms. Lively’s insinuations regarding my qualifications are offensive, as my bonafides are easily searchable online.” He emphasized that their interaction during the scene was entirely professional and that she never raised concerns during filming.

He addressed another point raised in the lawsuit — that he was flown in from out of town — by clarifying he was actually a local hire. “My wife and I are from New York and spend significant time there,” he said, noting that he was responsible for his own travel and accommodation, as is customary for local hires.

Lively’s legal team has not issued a new statement but referred media back to the original filing. The lawsuit, which names the film's producers and highlights broader concerns about on-set safety and privacy, has sparked wider industry conversations about consent, intimacy protocols, and protections for actors during vulnerable scenes.

The drama surrounding It Ends With Us has taken many by surprise, particularly given Lively's stature in the industry and the film's high-profile anticipation due to its source material — the bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover. As of now, production sources have not publicly addressed the claims, and it's unclear how this legal dispute might impact the film’s release or promotional plans.
