MediaTek has officially launched its new Kompanio Ultra 910 processor, marking a significant upgrade for Chromebook Plus devices. Designed to enhance both performance and power efficiency, this cutting-edge processor integrates AI-driven features, high-speed connectivity, and improved battery management, making Chromebooks more capable than ever before. The launch underscores MediaTek’s ongoing commitment to revolutionizing mobile computing technology, particularly in collaboration with Google to optimize ChromeOS devices.
Adam King, Vice President & General Manager of Computing and Multimedia Business at MediaTek, expressed his excitement about the Kompanio Ultra 910, emphasizing how it brings a new level of performance and intelligence to Chromebooks. "The Kompanio Ultra underscores our commitment to delivering groundbreaking computing performance and efficiency that MediaTek has shown as a leader in the mobile compute space for many years," King stated. "We worked closely with Google to ensure the newest Chromebook Plus devices enjoy next-generation on-device AI capabilities, superior performance per watt, and immersive multimedia.”
The Kompanio Ultra 910 is built using TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, which allows it to maintain power efficiency while delivering top-tier performance. It features an advanced octa-core CPU, consisting of a high-performance Arm Cortex-X925 core clocked at up to 3.62GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores, and four Cortex-A720 cores. This balanced architecture enables smooth multitasking, improved responsiveness, and seamless execution of resource-intensive tasks such as video editing, gaming, and web-based applications.
For graphics, MediaTek has integrated the Immortalis-G925 MC11 GPU, an 11-core graphics processor that supports hardware-based ray tracing, making visuals sharper and more realistic in supported applications. To further enhance processing speeds and reduce latency, the processor is equipped with 12MB of L3 cache and 10MB of system-level cache (SLC), ensuring faster data retrieval and optimized performance.
One of the standout features of the Kompanio Ultra 910 is its powerful on-device AI processing. Equipped with MediaTek’s latest 8th-generation Neural Processing Unit (NPU), the processor is capable of delivering up to 50 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) of AI computing power. This means that Chromebook Plus devices powered by this chip will be able to perform advanced AI-driven tasks, such as real-time image and video enhancement, voice recognition, and smart automation, without relying on cloud processing. This not only enhances speed and efficiency but also ensures greater privacy and security by keeping sensitive data on the device itself.
John Solomon, Vice President and General Manager of ChromeOS and Google for Education, spoke about the impact of this new processor on the Chromebook ecosystem. “We’re excited for the next step in our MediaTek partnership. The Kompanio Ultra will open up new avenues for on-device AI features on Chromebook Plus devices while delivering awesome power efficiency for those crucial extra hours while on the go,” he said.
Battery life is another major highlight of the Kompanio Ultra 910. MediaTek has optimized the chip to ensure long-lasting battery performance, allowing users to work, stream, and play games for extended periods without worrying about frequent recharges. With improved thermal management, Chromebooks powered by this processor are expected to run cooler and quieter, even during heavy workloads.
The processor also introduces support for Wi-Fi 7, the latest wireless networking standard, which promises significantly faster internet speeds, reduced latency, and better overall network reliability compared to its predecessors. Alongside this, Bluetooth 6.0 with a dual Bluetooth engine ensures seamless wireless connectivity for peripherals such as headphones, keyboards, and other smart devices.
In terms of multimedia capabilities, the Kompanio Ultra 910 supports multi-display output, allowing Chromebook users to connect up to three 4K monitors simultaneously—one built into the device and two external displays. The processor also supports 4K 10-bit video decoding and encoding across multiple popular formats, including HEVC, AVC, VP9, and AV1, ensuring high-quality video playback. Furthermore, it features Hi-Fi Audio DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), enhancing sound quality for media playback, voice calls, and AI-assisted applications.
As the competition in the Chromebook market intensifies, MediaTek’s new Kompanio Ultra 910 positions itself as a strong contender by offering a compelling mix of performance, efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities. By focusing on power efficiency, real-world usability, and cutting-edge connectivity, MediaTek aims to redefine the user experience for Chromebook Plus owners.
The company has confirmed that Chromebook models featuring the Kompanio Ultra 910 will be available in the coming months, bringing next-level computing power to students, professionals, and casual users alike.
