A heart-stopping viral video has captured the moment Kwon Young Jun, a South Korean national, risked his life by making a death-defying leap between two collapsing skyscrapers in Bangkok to save his family during the catastrophic 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Myanmar and Thailand. Jun, who was working out on the 52nd floor of the Park Origin Thonglor condo complex in the Thai capital when the tremors began, immediately ran towards a shattered 600-foot walkway connecting his building to the one where his wife and baby daughter were located.
As soon as the earthquake struck, causing widespread panic, buildings swayed, and glass shattered all around him. Jun found himself facing a terrifying decision—stay put and risk getting trapped in a crumbling building, or take the ultimate risk and jump across the broken bridge in a desperate bid to reach his family. With little time to think and adrenaline surging through his veins, he launched himself across the fractured walkway, defying gravity and what seemed like certain death. The jump, which was captured on camera by bystanders, quickly went viral, shocking viewers worldwide.
However, after making the daring leap, Jun discovered that his wife and child had already managed to evacuate the building. Wasting no time, he sprinted down more than 40 flights of stairs in a desperate attempt to reunite with them outside. Miraculously, he managed to escape with only minor cuts and bruises, a feat that many are calling nothing short of extraordinary.
Recounting his near-death experience to The Sun, Jun said, “All I could think about was getting back down to the room to save my wife and child. I realized it was an earthquake and the building was breaking apart, but I saw the gap and just jumped. I had no other choice.”
The video of his daring leap has since stunned millions, with many calling it an act of pure instinct and incredible bravery. His wife, Sukanya Yutuam, was among those deeply shaken by the footage. "It’s very dangerous. When I saw the clip, I was shocked like everyone else. No one was at their most mindful. Instinct took over, and he jumped across the buildings," she said. She further expressed her admiration for her husband's selflessness, saying, "My husband always puts his family first, even when it means risking his own life. I did not choose the wrong person."
The deadly earthquake, which sent shockwaves through the region, has left behind a trail of destruction. While Bangkok experienced strong tremors, Myanmar bore the brunt of the disaster, with entire towns reduced to rubble. The death toll has now surpassed 1,600, with thousands more injured, as emergency responders continue to search for survivors amid the devastation. In the aftermath of the disaster, authorities have urged people to stay vigilant as aftershocks continue to rock the region, raising concerns about further collapses and landslides.
