OnePlus 13T coming soon: Expectations for specs, cost, and more

After months of speculation surrounding the OnePlus 13T and OnePlus 13 mini, OnePlus has finally confirmed that the OnePlus 13T is the model headed for launch. The company has begun teasing its arrival in China, indicating a launch later this April. Although official specifications haven’t been fully disclosed, a flurry of leaks and teasers has already painted a fairly vivid picture of what’s coming. The OnePlus 13T is being positioned as a compact flagship aimed at users who want powerful performance without the bulk or high price tag. This strategy mirrors Apple’s approach with the iPhone 16e, offering premium features in a more affordable and manageable form factor.

In China, OnePlus is promoting the 13T as a “big devil, small screen” device, which points to high-end specs inside a smaller body. Compared to the OnePlus 13, which features a 6.82-inch screen, the 13T is expected to come with a 6.3-inch 1.5K OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. This will likely appeal to those who prefer smaller phones but don’t want to compromise on screen quality. Leaked visuals also suggest the phone will have a premium design with a glass back, flat edges, and a metal frame. Despite its powerful internals and a reportedly large battery, the 13T is expected to weigh just 185 grams—much lighter than the OnePlus 13’s 210 grams.

One of the most anticipated aspects of the 13T is its performance. It’s expected to debut as the first compact smartphone to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, the same processor as the OnePlus 13. It was recently spotted in an AnTuTu benchmark, racking up an impressive score of over 3 million, which suggests smooth handling of gaming, AI tasks, and multitasking. The phone is also tipped to come with up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, offering plenty of memory for heavy users.

On the camera front, the OnePlus 13T will likely feature a dual-camera setup, consisting of a 50-megapixel main sensor with OIS and a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. While this setup should deliver crisp portrait and daylight photos, the absence of an ultra-wide lens might disappoint some photography enthusiasts. The front camera details remain unclear, but a hole-punch camera is expected.

A standout feature is the rumored 6,200mAh battery, which would be even larger than the OnePlus 13’s 6,000mAh unit. This is a notable achievement for a compact device and might offer excellent battery life, possibly outperforming some larger rivals. However, despite the large battery and fast 80W wired charging support, wireless charging may be absent—likely a design compromise to maintain the slim profile.

The OnePlus 13T is expected to ship with Android 15 out of the box. In China, it will run ColorOS 15, while international versions, if released, would feature OxygenOS. One interesting rumour is the replacement of OnePlus’ trademark alert slider with a new “Magic Cube” button. Similar to Apple’s Action Button on the iPhone 15 Pro, this button would be programmable for various quick-access functions such as launching the camera, toggling the torch, or activating custom shortcuts.

Although pricing hasn’t been confirmed, the OnePlus 13T is expected to be more affordable than the OnePlus 13, likely falling in the 4,000–4,500 yuan range (approximately Rs 47,000–53,000). The phone is confirmed for a late April launch in China, but a global release is still uncertain. In the past, several “T” models have remained China-exclusive. However, with competition heating up from compact powerhouses like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge and the iPhone 16e, there’s a chance OnePlus might bring this model to global markets, including India, to tap into the growing demand for premium yet compact smartphones.
