Recalling Irrfan, Deepika Padukone announces Piku's theatrical re-release

The beloved Bollywood film 'Piku', a heartwarming dramedy, is all set for a theatrical re-release to commemorate its 10th anniversary in May 2025. The film, which originally hit theatres on May 8, 2015, struck a chord with audiences for its unique mix of humor, emotion, and family dynamics.

In an emotional tribute, Deepika Padukone, who played the fiery and fiercely independent daughter, Piku, shared the announcement on social media, fondly remembering her late co-star, Irrfan Khan. Deepika's post read, "A film that will always have my heart - PIKU is back in theatres on 9th May 2025 to celebrate its 10th Anniversary! Irrfan, we miss you! And think about you every so often (sic)."

The special re-release of the film was also officially announced by Amitabh Bachchan during his appearance on the popular quiz show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati'. In the video, the veteran actor urged fans to revisit the film in theatres on May 9, 2025, making it a poignant moment for all who appreciated the emotional journey of the characters.

'Piku', directed by Shoojit Sircar, is a tender portrayal of the relationship between a daughter and her aging, eccentric father, played by Amitabh Bachchan. The film delves into the complexities of familial bonds, particularly focusing on the often-overlooked challenges faced by caregivers. With Bachchan's character being obsessed with his constant constipation problems, the film navigates through the humor of such peculiarities while also exploring deeper themes of life’s messiness, old age, and the emotional baggage carried by both generations.

In addition to Deepika Padukone’s remarkable performance as the no-nonsense Piku, Irrfan Khan played a significant role in the film, leaving a lasting impact with his portrayal of the character Bhashkor Banerjee, Piku's father. His charm, wit, and vulnerability resonated deeply with the audience, making him an integral part of the film’s success. The re-release of 'Piku' will undoubtedly rekindle memories of his brilliant performance, leaving fans to reflect on the magic he brought to the silver screen.

For those who haven’t yet seen it or wish to relive the emotions, 'Piku'’s re-release promises to be an emotional and nostalgic ride. From the quirky humor to the poignant moments, it’s a reminder of the importance of cherishing family while also learning to embrace the ups and downs of life. The film's rich character dynamics, heartfelt moments, and beautiful direction ensure that it remains a timeless classic.

As the film returns to theatres, it will once again invite audiences to laugh, cry, and perhaps pick up the phone to call their own parents, realizing how much they mean in the grand scheme of life.
