Shreyas Iyer received an ICC award for his Champions Trophy comeback

Shreyas Iyer's exceptional form and remarkable performances over the past few months have earned him the prestigious ICC Player of the Month award for March 2025. The Indian batter claimed the accolade after a stunning return to the senior national side during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, edging out New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra and Jacob Duffy. Iyer's consistency with the bat was a key factor in India's success, and his contributions played a pivotal role in the team's historic victory.

Leading India's batting charts with 243 runs, Iyer was instrumental in the middle order, ensuring India clinched their first ICC Champions Trophy title since 2013, marking their first major ODI trophy in 12 years. His performances during the tournament were a testament to his growth as a player, especially considering his exclusion from the BCCI's list of centrally contracted players the previous year.

Iyer's return to form began with a stellar performance during the ODI series against England, where he scored two half-centuries in three matches. This confidence carried over into the Champions Trophy, where he delivered crucial performances in key moments. In a Group A fixture against New Zealand, Iyer scored a vital 79 off 98 balls, helping India post a competitive total on a challenging pitch. His knock included four boundaries and two sixes. In the semi-final, Iyer contributed 45 off 62 balls during India's successful chase against Australia, and he rounded off the tournament with a composed 48 off 62 in the final against New Zealand. His calm and match-winning contributions in the final were crucial in securing India's victory, sealing the Champions Trophy after 12 years.

Reflecting on his triumphs in March, Iyer expressed his pride in being named the ICC Player of the Month, especially in a month where India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy. He credited his teammates, coaches, and support staff for their unwavering belief in him. "Being able to contribute to India's success on such a big stage is something every cricketer dreams of. I'm grateful to my teammates, coaches, and support staff for their unwavering support and belief," Iyer said.

Post-Champions Trophy, Iyer has re-established himself firmly in India's ODI squad and is now a key figure in the team. His IPL 2025 form has only strengthened his case, with the Punjab Kings captain amassing 250 runs in just five matches, including three fifties. His strike rate of over 200 and his aggressive leadership have seen the team perform well early in the season. As Iyer continues to shine in the IPL, there are growing expectations that he will be recalled to the T20I squad as well.

Furthermore, Iyer is expected to be reinstated into the BCCI's pool of centrally contracted players, a well-deserved recognition after his excellent performances. His dedication to the sport has also been evident in his commitment to domestic cricket, where he represented Mumbai across multiple tournaments, including the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy, Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Shreyas Iyer's journey from being dropped from the national side to regaining his place and leading India to a Champions Trophy victory is a testament to his perseverance, skill, and commitment to the game. His achievements have not only elevated his own career but have also brought pride to Indian cricket.
