To stay fresh in the IPL 2025, Punjab Kings are utilizing Erling Haaland's recovery technique

Several players of Punjab Kings (PBKS) are turning to cutting-edge recovery technology, including the Erling Haaland-endorsed Normatec system, to help them recuperate after high-intensity matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. This insight was shared by the team’s strength and conditioning duo, Andrew Leipus and Adrian le Roux, during a recent interview with The New Indian Express, where they revealed an intriguing link between top-tier cricket and global football recovery techniques.

Normatec, a compression therapy system, is commonly used by elite athletes across sports, including Premier League footballers like Erling Haaland, who has been associated with the product for its advanced muscle recovery features. It helps in reducing muscle soreness, enhancing blood flow, and accelerating the healing of minor injuries and fatigue — all crucial for players participating in a packed IPL schedule.

PBKS have had an impressive start to their campaign, winning three of their first four matches and currently sitting in fourth place on the IPL 2025 points table. Under the mentorship of head coach Ricky Ponting, the team has embraced an aggressive, positive brand of cricket that is not only winning them games but also turning heads across the league.

Speaking about recovery protocols, Andrew Leipus, a seasoned sports physiotherapist and former support staff member of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), explained that post-match recovery is highly personalized. “We can’t force players to do anything that they don’t feel is relevant to them,” Leipus said. “A lot of them do ice baths in the dressing room post-matches. When they come back to the hotel, if they’ve got any niggles, we do something called an icing-compression treatment. We had a couple of players using Normatec, and it’s proving to be effective.”

Shreyas Iyer, who recently played a spectacular knock of 97 runs against Gujarat Titans, was specifically mentioned for his dedicated approach to recovery. “Shreyas was out there for 20 overs before he fielded,” Leipus noted. “It’s a reflection of how he looks after himself. He hydrates, he does Normatec, his physical prep is really good, and he is committed to nutrition. You don’t have to push him. Some of the younger guys, though, need more guidance in this department.”

Adrian le Roux, the team’s strength and conditioning coach, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that recovery is as vital as training and game-day performance. The PBKS management appears focused on ensuring longevity and peak performance for its squad through science-backed fitness regimes and personalized recovery planning.

The fusion of advanced recovery tools like Normatec and proactive coaching staff is giving PBKS an edge in maintaining player fitness throughout the grueling tournament. This blend of science, sport, and strategy showcases how the IPL has evolved into a professionally managed, high-performance league, rivaling the best in the world.

With Punjab Kings continuing their strong run, fans will be keen to see whether this fitness-first, forward-thinking approach can lead them all the way to their first-ever IPL title.
